Teachers

Teachers

I may have this totally wrong, but for some reason; I think teachers have an obligation to have high moral standards. This profession is the one that molds are children to be productive adults. The teachers that I know personally are human just like any of us. Faults are something each of us has, but before taking advantage of any position is just wrong. Teachers have power over youngsters and at times abuse that power. Then there are some that are just a little mean, because they can be. If all in that profession would just think, before their actions cause pain that sticks with children, forever. I still remember the kindergarten teacher that made fun of my tangled hair; the first grade teacher that hit me with a ruler; the coaches that lined the whole class up and paddled us as we left their classroom and the one's that picked certain young ladies to constantly hang around. I have also not forgotten the one's that praised you for good work; the one's that if you were sick put a wet paper towel on your head; or the one's that complimented you if you had on a new outfit or new shoes.

  1. I think teachers should be held to a higher standard, but like you said, they are human too. But the kids today seem to not be learning how to respect authority figures, such as teachers, police, etc., at home. I think a lot of times parents are failing in this role. I remember some friends of mine years ago telling their kids, if you don't behave, I'll get the police. That isn't teaching respect, thats teaching fear. I had a teacher that paddled our hands with a ruler...lol.

  2. The first time I saw a teacher at the stateline I thought it was terrible. I should have not been there either, but there is something about a teacher I would like to hold higher. You are right parents are failing terribly. With a little luck and a lot of prayers; that will help.

  3. I have such fond memories of teachers like Albert McGraw, Mr Smith aka snuffy Smith, and Mrs Walker. I can still hear Mr McGraw reading "Little House" and doing the "Caroline" voice and Mr Smith praising my essay about equality. I seriously doubt that any of those teachers would have posted their pictures on fb partying with former students and I know they showed no favoritism to their own children in the classroom. It's true there are parents who don't do a good job but I would hesitate to place decline in student morals and behaviour solely on the parents. My youngest child was told from kindergarten through 9th grade that the teacher is always right and he was to obey or suffer consequences. I had to back track on that after I saw firsthand abuse of authority and blatant favoritism by a couple of teachers, now I advocate for the student!
